Whilst completing my studies in Grahamstown I found out that the city has close to 100 religious buildings. So I went on a mission to find them…
Some of the buildings resemble churches, some resemble homes, some basic run-down shacks…but all of them are places of worship.

Are you aware that the “City of Saints”was so named as the Garrison situated there sent,by telegraph to H.Q.,the Castle in Cape Town,a requisition for supplies including a vice for the workshop.Cape Town told them to acquire a vice locally, but the garrison replied “no vice in Grahamstown”. Hence the name “City of Saints”
The church version came much later.
Are you aware that the name “City of Saints”was derived sarcastically when the garrison there sent,to H.Q.at the Castle in Cape Town,a requisition for supplies, including a vice for their workshop.
H.Q.replied”Obtain vice locally”to which the garrison responded”No vice in Grahamstown”.
