This portrait was taken in the rural outskirts of Grahamstown, Eastern Cape, South Africa.
One of my favourite side effects of photography is the interaction with people. I was walking through the rural outskirts of Grahamstown when I was promptly invited into this man’s home for a drink and a smoke.
Walking around as a white guy through a black township / rural area makes you stick out like a sore thumb, and it creates a lot of questions and sparks a lot of interest – but I always end up being welcomed into someones home, sharing some stories, and leaving with a memorable picture.

Beautiful pic – love the lighting
