The Zanzibar harbour is definitely not your typical tourist attraction. It is a muggy, muddy, serious, smelly, working ground for the local fishermen.
What I noticed throughout the day in Stone Town was that wherever there was hard labour performed by elderly men (the horbour as well as the meat / fish market) one felt a little less welcome, the environment seemed humourless with a sense of tension – especially when wondering around with a visible camera and as a conspicuous tourist couple…
