When visiting a country / place that has so much heritage and culture (as Zanzibar has) I tend to imagine and daydream how life used to be – from the day’s of the Sultans rule to the Indian and Colonialist customs. Not only do I imagine how life must have been like, I sometimes wish I could travel back in time and experience it myself.
The closest I can get to that fantasy is post editing some of my photographs. When I give them an aged appeal, using sepia filters, stronger contrasts, artificial grain, and of course choose subject matters that I imagine could have existed many years before, I have a sense that I took that picture back in the day. It is a short lived satisfaction – but a satisfaction never the less!
