2009 was yet another year filled with events that amazed, saddened, and excited the world. I compiled a selection of the best Pictures Of The Year 2008 last year, and this year I’ll do the same, starting with the same tag line:
There are always a variety of photographs that highlight some of the events of the year for me. Some images are humorous, some completely superficial, whilst others are breathtaking, picturesque, serious, violent, and even terrifying.
What a way to start the day. I woke up, switched on the television, and was presented to what looked like President George W Bush dodging a pair of flying shoes – and according to CNN I was not dreaming!
A man identified as an Iraqi journalist threw shoes at — but missed — President Bush during a news conference Sunday evening in Baghdad, where Bush was making a farewell visit. In Arab culture, throwing shoes at someone, or sitting so that the bottom of a shoe faces another person, is considered an insult.
I wonder what is going to happen to the Iraqi journo?

Boobs and Guns
Let’s start with the humorous – the spoof picture of gun-toting beauty queen, Sarah Palin. The manipulated image, showing Republican vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin posing for a photo sporting an American flag bikini and a rifle became an instant hit when forwarded by millions via email and suitably ridiculed her position within the US Elections.
