Exterior shots of Soccer City at day time and night – it is simply a magnificent structure!
Notice how one side of the stadium is lit up and the other only by the light escaping through the large openings.

2009 was yet another year filled with events that amazed, saddened, and excited the world. I compiled a selection of the best Pictures Of The Year 2008 last year, and this year I’ll do the same, starting with the same tag line:
There are always a variety of photographs that highlight some of the events of the year for me. Some images are humorous, some completely superficial, whilst others are breathtaking, picturesque, serious, violent, and even terrifying.

The 2009 National Geographic’s International Photography Contest brought forward some fantastic images, this one in particular is my favourite!
I drove past Soccer City Stadium the other day and mightily impressed by how far construction has come. This stadium will look awesome once completed for 2010.
The stadium is the flagship venue for the Soccer World Cup 2010, and it will be hosting both the opening match and the final. Soccer City Stadium is the largest in Africa. The stadium is also known as FNB Stadium (First National Bank stadium).
This picture was taken from the Nelson Mandela Bridge in the Johannesburg CBD.
The artificial facade on the building is striking and so realistically done that it actually seems like a soccer ball is crashing through the building. Quite a prominent and effective billboard by the global communications company MTN.
