Ross Solomons, talented writer, professional fish-hunter, and author of TheBassBoat, has taken my latest fishing story to the next level.

When it comes to fishing and hunting stories, they always organically evolve and become mythologised – it’s in the nature of how they are told and related in different settings.

So Ross has re-told the story of when I caught the Vundu (or maybe even the Nyaminyami), and has done a sterling job of it. I really like how he integrated the idea of the relation between the Vundu and the Nyaminyami, since we discussed this when I first told him the story.

Even though not all the facts might be correct, the story is close enough to the truth, and the facts that really matter (i.e. the size of the Vundu) have not… been altered.

I know that this story will be the fishing story of my life, it will most probably take many shapes and forms throughout it’s time, and it will most definitely be the most exciting and enthralling fishing story you will hear from me – since that is exactly what it felt like when I was alone, fighting a mystical creature in the moonlight, on Lake Kariba.
